My name is Margaret Stead and I have been coaching in my own business since 1991, (before there was the word ‘coach’.) In 1990, I found myself working for an international consulting firm that specialised in ‘milking’ money from the forced career transitions of thousands of middle managers.

It was not unusual for me to spend a twelve hour day listening to the stories of people who had been made redundant by letter from their jobs after twenty, thirty years of hard work.

Occasionally they would hear the news via the media or as happened on one occasion, by mobile phone in the back of a limo on their way to deliver Christmas presents to a Children’s Home. There was no mercy.

I swore then that I would do something about it and there began a personal journey to help individuals find themselves, their personal dream and use innovative marketing techniques to give them the career capability to protect them from the pain of not belonging anymore.

I set myself a personal mission ‘To teach networking to a million people’. Within five years I had written a book, built a coaching business, written a program and developed a careers and networking web site with a little red door, that was No 1 in every seach engine and attracting 40,000 visitors every month.

Through recommendation and referral my coaching practice took off and I was turning over £150,000 plus with one to one coaching. But the coaching was draining and whilst I was coaching I could not be marketing and one day my web site fell off the charts due to an ill-conceived and dimly-executed hosting transfer. (He simply forgot the ‘error 404s!’)

Anyway to cut a long story short, I have since fought long, hard and successfully found a NEW way of marketing smarter rather than harder.

Because whether you realize it and accept it or not, even if you’re the best coach on the planet, if you don’t easily attract all the ideal clients you want, you’ll need a day job.

You see – the secret to great business success and financial independence is reliant on one key element – marketing.

Being good at what you do is important and every good coach making a living has to be good at ‘marketing’ herself – no matter what it is called: attraction, networking, referrals etcetera. What we don’t like (and my coaching clients have always resisted-like ‘demons’) is learning the ‘methods’.
