You're about to get the offer. Now they want to check your references. If you don't have at least two at the ready, you're sunk. You have to know where your references can be found. You need to follow up with them before the call and brief them on the hot points for that particular employer.
If you don't brief your referees, you may end up with an unfocused or vague recommendation that doesn't do much for your chances. It's best to have references from different companies, so they can speak to different skill sets at different organisations.
